Fight Club Book Cover
The main theme for this book cover is identity. In both the book and movie of Fight Club, Palahniuk emphasizes the idea that in a capitalistic and consumerist society it obfuscates one's sense of self because of how dispensable a person can be in a corporate world. When creating the publishing logo, the name of the company is the scientific name of the pig symbolizing greed (mass-consumerism) and corruption and with the beheading of the pig representing the unforgiving and cut-throat society that prioritizes production over anything else. Intention:The book cover’s most used icon is the typical default profile identity typically used on social media or ID without an individual's photo. Which lacks a uniqueness in someone's individual identity.
The first front cover contains simplistic, geometric shapes that highlight the containment of individuality. And the protagonist who created Fight Club in the first place served as an outlet for that notion–hence the decision to make a two layer cover that contrasts the difference between the typical white collar worker and the life outside of that. The back cover contains the rules for fight club that have been blocked by the default icons representing that Fight Club should not be mentioned outside of the ring. Uncovering the first layer will reveal the rules of Fight Club without any icons blocking it. Overall, the prominence in red/warm tones highlight the brutality and cut-throat society.
